The SME sector in Kuwait is a significant part of the economy and is a potential anchor for the broader economic objectives, including agendas such as the National Vision Plan 2035. The SME sector has been extended institutional, regulatory and financial support in recent times, though it will require continuous support into the future. A Fund worth 2 Billion Kuwaiti Dinars is backing the sector in line with the policy aims and targets of the National Vision Plan. However, Kuwaiti SMEs still face scarce credit situations and general difficulties in terms of ease of business.

This report provides valuable insights into the ecosystem in which Kuwaiti SMEs operate, while studying the policy environment to understand whether they flow in line with some international best practices. Also, the report recommends some policy options and suggests solutions that can help redress the SME sector’s challenges and leverage its use for plans such as National Vision Plan 2035
